Boombox Cartel
Boombox Cartel is the Los Angeles-based DJ duo of Americo Garcia, from Laredo, Texas, and Jorge Medina, from Monterrey, Mexico, who met in high school before both relocating to St. Paul, Minnesota to study audio engineering and music production at McNally Smith College of Music.
After a brief period in Minnesota they moved to Los Angeles to pursue DJ and production careers, self-releasing their breakout track “B2U” featuring Ian Everson in 2015, which drew attention from Skrillex, Diplo and Martin Garrix. The duo signed to Diplo's label Mad Decent in 2016 and released their debut EP, Cartel, in April 2017, building a trap and bass-driven sound that carried directly into their live DJ sets.
Boombox Cartel have toured extensively on the North American festival circuit, including bookings tied to their Mexican heritage such as EDC Mexico, and have been interviewed about balancing studio work with touring commitments across shows in different cities on tight schedules. Their catalogue of self-released and label tracks has functioned as the backbone of their DJ sets, with the pair known for blending hip hop and trap textures with festival-scaled bass music production for club and festival crowds alike.
