Marshmello
Christopher Comstock, known as Marshmello, is an American DJ from Philadelphia whose white marshmallow-helmet persona has become central to his live presentation. Formerly performing as Dotcom, he began on SoundCloud in 2010, signed to Buygore Records in 2014 and introduced the Marshmello project in 2015 with the track Wavez. His sets draw on dubstep, future bass, trap and festival trap, built around groove, synth and bass-heavy EDM.
The anonymous visual language of the helmet was inspired by Deadmau5 and Daft Punk, giving the project a clear identity across conventional shows and digital events. His early live itinerary included Pier 94 in New York, HARD Day of the Dead in Pomona, Miami Music Week in 2016 and an EDC Las Vegas appearance on 19 June 2016. The Ritual Tour later traveled across the United States, China, South Korea, India and Paraguay.
Marshmello opened the 2021 UEFA Champions League Final ceremony, and he demonstrated the reach of his virtual performance format with a Fortnite Battle Royale concert on 2 and 3 February 2019. More than ten million players attended on its first day. His DJ career has therefore combined festival-scale bass music with a character-driven presence that can translate equally effectively to live arenas and online worlds.
