Laidback Luke — Electro House & Progressive DJLaidback Luke
Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen, known as Laidback Luke, is a Filipino-born Dutch DJ raised in Hoofddorp, Netherlands. He began his music career in 1992 and received early encouragement from Dutch DJ and producer Gaston Steenkist, who helped him secure a record deal when he was 18. His early musical frame drew from Chicago house and funky hard techno, foundations that continued to inform a wide-ranging DJ identity spanning electro house, progressive house, Dutch house, techno, bloghouse and fidget house.
In the late 2000s he became associated with the crossover between bloghouse and electro house, while the Super You & Me concept made costumes, community and dancefloor celebration central parts of his live presentation. He founded Mixmash Records and has also released through Dim Mak, Spinnin' and Ultra. A documented Tomorrowland Winter appearance in 2023 reflected his continued festival activity.
In 2025, Laidback Luke introduced the CODE/RED concept, a creative reset that returned him to raw bloghouse and fidget-house ideas after he felt his preceding decade had become overly polished. That willingness to revisit earlier club sounds, rather than preserve a fixed formula, remains a defining aspect of his DJ career.
