John Digweed
Thomas John Digweed, known as John Digweed, is a British DJ from Hastings whose career began at age 15. He first built a following through club nights and raves on Hastings Pier, then sent a demo to Renaissance founder Geoff Oakes in 1993, beginning a partnership with Sasha that became central to progressive house. With Nick Muir, Digweed recorded as Bedrock; their 1993 track For What You Dream Of was used in Trainspotting.
In 1994, Digweed and Sasha co-compiled Renaissance: The Mix Collection, described as the first commercial compilation made for a nightclub. Their monthly Twilo residency in New York ran from 1997 until the club closed in 2001. Digweed's own marathon club approach has included an 11-hour set at Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos and a near-10-hour Bedrock anniversary set at Matter in London.
He founded Bedrock Records and staged Bedrock nights at Heaven in London and The Beach in Brighton. From 2000 he hosted Transitions on the Kiss network, later continuing it online; the show passed its 800th episode in 2019. Known for incorporating varied styles into progressive, house, techno and trance selections, Digweed has made sustained, carefully sequenced sets and curation central to his work.
