12th Planet
12th Planet, born John Christopher Dadzie in Los Angeles, is an American DJ and dubstep producer credited as one of the earliest figures to bring dubstep to the United States. He began producing drum and bass under the alias Infiltrata before shifting to dubstep in 2006 and adopting the 12th Planet name, a reference to Zecharia Sitchin's book of the same title. Dadzie served as head A&R for SMOG Records and for Disciple Records' sublabel Disciple Round Table, helping shape rosters beyond his own output.
He frequently collaborated with Orange County producer Flinch and Los Angeles-based Skrillex, working together on tracks including Needed Change, Father Said and Burst alongside Kill the Noise. His productions and remixes have been played by dubstep DJs including Rusko, Skream and Skrillex, cementing his role within the genre's early American scene. Dadzie's path from South Los Angeles, where he attended Loyola High School, to becoming a fixture of the West Coast dubstep circuit reflects the DIY trajectory of the genre's US import, built through Imperial Recordings with collaborator DJ Lith before his solo dubstep identity took hold.
He has been referred to within the scene as the General of the Riddim Gang for his role popularizing the sound domestically.
