Zinc
Zinc is the recording name of Benjamin Pettit, a British DJ and producer who broke through in 1995 with "Super Sharp Shooter," a hip hop and jungle fusion now regarded as a pioneering drum and bass anthem. He began his radio career in 1991 alongside DJ Swift on London pirate stations Impact FM and Eruption FM, later moving to Rinse FM once it gained a broadcast license, and he recorded a two-hour Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 in November 2009. Through the late 1990s and early 2000s Zinc DJed and produced within the Ganja Kru and True Playaz collectives alongside DJ Hype, running his own label Bingo Beats from 2002 to 2008.
His 2000 single "138 Trek" reached No. 27 on the UK Singles Chart and helped push drum and bass into the 2-step garage market. After stepping back from drum and bass in 2007, he returned in 2009 with a bassline and UK garage-inflected sound he termed "crack house," releasing the Crack House series through Bingo Beats and Bingo Bass into the 2020s, including 2024's BASSLOVE.
He continues to tour internationally as a bass music DJ.
