Zhu

Zhu is the recording name of Steven Zhu, a San Francisco-raised, Los Angeles-based DJ and producer who first broke through anonymously in 2014 with the single Faded before revealing his identity. DJ Mag and DJ Life Magazine have tracked his evolution from a masked mystery act into a touring headliner known for moody, bass-heavy house and deep house sets delivered with a saxophone he often plays live during shows.

His 2023 North American tour covered more than 25 cities, including sold-out multi-night runs at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and equivalent venues in New York, reflecting a club and arena-level DJ circuit built over roughly a decade. He has performed at major festivals and built his Dreamland series into a recurring live and DJ experience, later expanded into a recorded project following a pandemic-era road trip with his band.

His catalog includes collaborations with artists like AlunaGeorge and Tame Impala, but his core identity remains that of a touring DJ whose sets fuse house rhythm sections with live instrumentation. Early press dubbed him one of dance music's most closely watched anonymous acts before his identity became public knowledge, and his profile has since grown through consistent global touring and festival headline slots.
