Zeds Dead — Dubstep & UK Garage DJZeds Dead
Zeds Dead are the Toronto-based Canadian duo of Dylan Mamid, known as DC, and Zachary Rapp-Rovan, known as Hooks. Their bass-music approach moves across dubstep, UK garage, house, electro house, hip-hop, glitch and drum and bass, making genre movement central to their DJ identity. Before the duo's later label ventures, they founded Bassmentality, a Toronto party that ran from 2009 to 2013.
Their European debut came at Gottwood Festival in Wales in June 2010. Zeds Dead released the debut album Northern Lights in 2016, the same year they established Deadbeats. In 2021 they added Altered States, giving the project two label platforms for its evolving output.
Their career has also received awards recognition, including an MMVA win in 2015 and a Canadian Independent Music Award in 2017, alongside Juno Award nominations in 2015 and 2017. The duo's sound is not confined to one branch of electronic music; garage, dubstep and drum and bass all inform a broad bass-led selection. Through Bassmentality, Gottwood, Deadbeats and Altered States, Zeds Dead have paired local party roots with a continuing label-based presence.
