Zed Bias
Zed Bias, real name Dave Jones, is a Manchester-based English DJ and producer who has spent over two decades moving through UK garage, 2-step, broken beat and UK funky. Recording early material as Maddslinky from 2001 and living in Milton Keynes while building connections with local DJs, he created the dubplate that became Neighbourhood for DJ Glenn Woods, a track whose underground momentum in late 1999 pushed it to number 25 on the UK singles chart in mid-2000.
His productions pushed the more experimental, progressive edges of 2-step garage and have since been cited as an important influence on the emergence of dubstep as a distinct sound. Jones has also worked as one half of the production duo Phuturistix and has remixed numerous artists across the UK bass continuum.
His DJ output extends into compiled mix series, including Sound of the Pirates on Locked On in 2000, reflecting his roots in pirate radio and club culture. Zed Bias remains active as a touring garage and broken beat DJ, continuing to play sets that draw on the bassline-driven UK sound he helped shape from the ground up during the early 2000s.
