Valentino Kanzyani
Valentino Kanzyani, born Tine Kocjančič, became known in his native Slovenia after he began playing at Ambasada Gavioli in 1995 alongside DJ Umek, a residency-era partnership that helped establish him within the country's early techno scene. Over a three-and-a-half-year stretch there he shared bills with many of the world's leading DJs, and he built a reputation for a distinctive technique of mixing across three turntables simultaneously.
His profile grew internationally to the point that DJ Magazine ranked him 75th in its Top 100 DJs poll, and in December 2003 he recorded an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, one of the clearest markers of international recognition within dance music at the time. Kanzyani has remixed tracks for Ken Ishii, Deep Dish, Wally Lopez and Jon Carter, and he co-runs the label Recycled Loops with DJ Umek alongside a second imprint, Earresistable.
His mix series output includes contributions to Rock the Discothèque, Intechnique and Palazzo - Volume Six, and his catalogue of releases spans labels including Tronic, Yoshitoshi Recordings and Intec Records from the early 2000s onward. Kanzyani's combination of a distinctive three-turntable DJ technique, sustained studio output and international festival and club bookings has kept him a fixture of European techno for more than two decades.
