Tiga, born Tiga James Sontag on 18 September 1974 in Montreal, is a Canadian DJ and producer whose club career began in 1990, when he and a group of friends started throwing small parties and street promotions around the city. Those early events built a cult following that fed into his purchase of DNA Records in 1994 and his role in conceiving Montreal's SONA nightclub in 1996, a venue where Tiga played a central part in shaping the city's dance scene during that decade.
His broadcasting career started around the same period with a 1990s terrestrial radio show on CKUT, giving him an additional platform alongside his club and label work. Active professionally since the late 1990s, Tiga has described DJing as “an insane existential puzzle,” reflecting a career-long focus on the craft of live mixing that runs parallel to his work as a singer-songwriter and label owner at Turbo, the imprint he continues to run.
His sound spans electronic, house, electro and elements of hip hop and UK garage, a range that reflects his roots in Montreal's varied club culture of the 1990s. More than three decades after his first parties, Tiga remains active as a touring DJ while continuing to release music and run Turbo.
