Ticon
Ticon is the Swedish psytrance and progressive trance DJ duo of Filip Mårdberg, born 1979, and Fredrik Gilenholt, born 1977, from Malmö, who met in 1991 through a shared interest in underground dance music. The pair began by attending techno and trance parties, buying records, and DJing at underground psytrance events, first as Sector and later, from around 1995, under the name Tripticon, exchanging DAT tapes internationally to source material for their sets. Their album Tripticon: The Seventh Portal was released in 1999 through Stockholm's Tsunami Records, after which they adopted the Ticon name and shifted toward a groovier trance sound at the suggestion of Malmö-based label Digital Structures. The track Mona Bone, released in 2000, marked the point where they found their signature direction, leading to their acclaimed debut album Rewind in April 2001. Following requests to perform live off the back of Rewind, they built a hardware-based live show and went on to release six albums, with tracks including Ass-tronaut, Monkey Business, Rattlesnake Lollipop and Lo Mi Hi becoming staples of the psytrance and progressive trance circuit released through labels such as TIP World.
