Shapeshifters
The Shapeshifters are a British house duo built around Simon Marlin, best known for Lola's Theme, a house track that began as a mostly instrumental release on Nocturnal Groove at the end of 2003 before its full single version, featuring gospel singer Cookie of the London Community Gospel Choir, reached number one in the UK in July 2004. The track's video featured Norman Jay, credited with a Good Times vocal mix, while Eric Prydz and Victor Calderone contributed additional mixes and ATFC delivered a remix titled Jive for Jezebel, reflecting the duo's ties to the wider UK house DJ scene. Lola's Theme anchored the Shapeshifters' 2004 debut album Sound Advice, released on Positiva Records, and was followed by further UK Top 20 hits Back to Basics and Incredible. The track's lasting presence in house DJ sets was underlined in 2024 when UK rapper ArrDee sampled it for the collaborative single Different, made together with the Shapeshifters, extending the track's reach two decades after its original release and keeping the duo tied to the UK house scene they helped shape in the mid-2000s.
