The Funk Hunters
The Funk Hunters are a Vancouver-based Canadian DJ duo composed of Nick Middleton and Duncan Smith, who met in 2008 at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School and began DJing at house parties after bonding over funk and electronic dance music. Since 2009, the duo has been a regular fixture at Shambhala Music Festival in British Columbia, the event that shaped their early development, alongside appearances at Electric Forest, Calgary Stampede, and Bass Coast.
They have also performed in support of artists including Chali 2na and GRiZ, broadening their reach beyond the Canadian festival circuit into wider North American bass and funk scenes. Middleton runs the label Westwood Recordings, through which much of the duo's original production has been released, as well as Midnight Agency, an artist management company extending his role beyond performing.
The Funk Hunters' sound draws on future funk, glitch hop, and electro disco, blending live instrumentation influences with DJ-driven set structures. Their sustained presence at Shambhala across more than a decade has made them closely associated with that festival's identity within the Canadian electronic music scene.
