The Chainsmokers are American DJs Alex Pall and Andrew Drew Taggart, a duo formed in New York City in 2012 under manager Adam Alpert. They broke through with #Selfie in 2014 before reaching a wider global audience with Closer, featuring Halsey, in 2016. Their first live show took place at Terminal 5 in New York in September 2014, and their sound has developed by, in Taggart's words, blurring indie, pop, dance and hip-hop.
They have taken that crossover format to Ultra Music Festival, where they performed on 19 March 2016, and to Lollapalooza in 2019, where they introduced a new live setup. From 2017 to 2019 they also held an exclusive Wynn Nightlife residency at XS Las Vegas and Encore Beach Club, while 2020 brought their Safe & Sound drive-in concert in Southampton, New York. The duo won the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for Don't Let Me Down, alongside two American Music Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards and nine iHeartRadio Music Awards.
DJ Mag placed them 18th in 2016 and sixth in 2017. Their career connects a pop-forward catalogue with a consistent live-DJ presence in major festivals, Las Vegas residency rooms and one-off event formats.
