Technical Itch
Rounding out the top 900, Technical Itch is the alias of British DJ and producer Mark Caro, who began DJing at local parties in Birmingham back in 1991 while starting out on production with a limited home setup. His sound became known for heavy basslines, intricate drum patterns and an ominous edge that set him apart within the drum and bass scene as it developed through the 1990s.
Caro's DJ sets, often built around vinyl mixing, have been documented on video from club dates as far afield as Saint Petersburg, where a 2008 performance captured his approach to dark and atmospheric drum and bass and jungle. Now based in Los Angeles, he continues to perform hard drum and bass and techstep sets, maintaining the pioneering reputation he built in the genre's darker corners since the early 1990s.
Technical Itch has been recognized within specialist drum and bass outlets as a key figure in shaping the genre's more atmospheric, bass-heavy strand, distinguishing his catalogue from more melodic contemporaries. His decades-long run as a DJ, spanning Birmingham's early scene through international club dates, has established him as a lasting name within the darker end of drum and bass.
