About SUBB-AN
Subb-an is the performing name of Ashique Subhan, a Berlin-based DJ who began collecting and experimenting with vinyl around age twelve in the late 1990s and has been active as a DJ since the mid-2000s. He got his start through a booking at Below, the Birmingham club night founded by Adam Shelton, later becoming a resident there and developing his craft within that scene, part of Birmingham's Below Sunday raves at the original Rainbow venue. Subb-an has gone on to play regularly at Fabric, DC10, Panorama Bar, Stereo, Warung, D-Edge and Amnesia, and has appeared at festivals including Glastonbury, Gottwood and Detroit Movement. In 2009 he co-created the label One Records with Adam Shelton, which went on to release music by Cab Drivers, The Mole and iO, and helped launch the careers of John Dimas and Yamen & EDA. His own releases have appeared on Spectral Sound, Crosstown Rebels, Cocoon, Cabinet Records and Beste Modus, with his DJ sets known for a high-energy, groove-driven sound that moves between house, techno and minimal, citing Craig Richards and Ricardo Villalobos as key influences on his approach to selection and mixing.
