Sub Zero Project — Raw Hardstyle DJ DuoSub Zero Project
Sub Zero Project is the Dutch hardstyle duo of Thomas Velderman and Nigel Coppen, also known as SZP. Coppen first produced alone as Sub Zero before connecting with Velderman through YouTube. They signed to Belgium's Dirty Workz in December 2013, when they were 16 and 17, and both later graduated from the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht as Artist Musician Dance Producers. Their sound is raw hardstyle built around psy-style kicks and rapid kickrolls, which the duo describe as multiple fast kicks in one beat like a drum roll.
The 2017 track The Project brought broad attention to this approach. Q-Dance selected them to create the Qlimax 2018 anthem, The Game Changer, and their 2019 collaboration Darkest Hour (The Clock) with Ghost Stories won the Q-Dance annual Top 100 Hardstyle tracks vote. They subsequently secured further wins through Trip To Mars (Astronauts) and HALO in 2021 and It Will Be Ok with Dual Damage in 2025. Their live milestones include producing the Defqon.1 2023 anthem Path of the Warrior, debuting Psychodelic at Reverze Festival in 2023 and selling 7,500 tickets for their All For One show.
They played the Tomorrowland mainstage in 2025, becoming the fourth hardstyle act to do so. Across Qlimax, Defqon.1 and headline shows, Sub Zero Project have developed a distinct, high-impact hardstyle performance identity.
