Snails
Snails, born Frederik Durand on May 4, 1988, in Sainte-Emelie-de-l'Energie, Quebec, is a Canadian DJ and producer based in Montreal known for a bass-heavy style described by Billboard as featuring guttural bass gurgles and crushing low end, a sound tagged vomitstep. His debut release, Bubble Gun, appeared online in 2012 through Canadian label Kannibalen Records, and he went on to release through Slugz Music, Owsla, and Monstercat. He built a following through collaborations with Flux Pavilion and Jack U, receiving early support from Skrillex and other prominent DJs.
His US concert debut came in 2014 alongside the singles Wild and Pump This, and by 2015 he was a regular fixture at major festivals, including Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, and Electric Forest. His discography includes the albums The Shell (2017), Slimeageddon (2018), and Helix (2022), as well as the 2019 release World of Slime. His performance schedule was affected between 2020 and 2023 amid unfounded allegations that later led to a defamation lawsuit, which he won in March 2024 with a 1.5 million dollar judgment from an Alberta court against his accuser.
He performed 15 shows in 2023 as he returned to touring, continuing to play under the Snails name across the North American festival circuit.
