Slushii
Slushii is the performing name of Julian Michael Scanlan, a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer from Mount Laurel, New Jersey, who emerged in 2016 with his self-released debut album Brain Freeze and quickly built a following in future bass and dubstep circles. Scanlan, previously a member of the psychedelic power-pop band Deuteronomy, developed his DJ identity around a hybrid sound combining helium-pitched vocals, trance synths, trap drums and dubstep drops, exemplified by tracks like his 2017 single Catch Me.
His rise was aided by connections through manager Moe Shalizi's roster, which included Marshmello, Ookay and Jauz, and by early support from Skrillex, whose OWSLA label helped elevate the project's visibility within the broader bass music scene. Slushii's sets have leaned into high-energy festival programming built for large stages, matching the maximalist character of his studio productions.
He has spoken publicly about being diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and the social difficulties he faced growing up, context that has shaped how he discusses his path from working retail in New Jersey to touring as an internationally billed DJ. His catalogue, including the 2023 single Past Lives, has kept him active on festival and club circuits since his 2016 breakout.
