About Slam

Slam is the Scottish DJ and production duo of Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, who met in Glasgow and co-founded Soma Quality Recordings in 1991, a label that went on to release early Daft Punk material alongside a roster including Funk D'Void and Ewan Pearson. The pair built their global touring reputation on a distinctive six-deck, back-to-back DJ performance format, a technical approach that has become one of their signature traits on the international techno circuit.

McMillan and Meikle's earliest club events in Glasgow helped establish the city's underground dance scene in the early 1990s, a period The Skinny has credited them with instigating almost from scratch given the limited local infrastructure for electronic music at the time. Beyond DJing, the duo co-own Glasgow's Riverside Festival, extending their influence into event promotion alongside their production and touring work.

Their house and techno sets have remained a fixture of major club and festival bills for more than three decades, with Soma Records functioning as both their creative home and platform for other Scottish and European artists. McMillan and Meikle continue performing as Slam while running Soma, a dual role that has kept them central to Glasgow's techno identity since the label's founding.
