Skream — House, Disco & Techno DJSkream
Oliver Dene Jones, known as Skream, is an English DJ from West Wickham in Bromley, South London, and one of dubstep's earliest influential architects. As a teenager he worked at Big Apple Records in Croydon, a crucial early-dubstep hub, and regularly attended FWD first at the Velvet Rooms and then at Plastic People in Shoreditch. His 2005 track Midnight Request Line and 2006 album Skream! helped move dubstep from a dark, stripped-back club sound toward brighter, more melodic territory.
He later co-founded Magnetic Man with Benga and Artwork. Since 2013, Skream has focused primarily on house, disco and techno, bringing a more varied palette to DJ sets that also draw on UK garage, dub, drum and bass, jungle and grime. He launched the Skreamizm tour of small clubs for three-hour sets, positioning it as an alternative to large arena and festival appearances. In 2023 he reunited with Benga and SGT Pokes at fabric in London, followed by The Black Box in Denver in April 2024.
His broadcasting history includes Stella Sessions on Rinse FM, The Skream and Benga Show, and a weekly BBC Radio 1 program from April 2012. Across those shifts, Skream has remained a DJ whose historical foundations and present selections are unusually wide-ranging.
