Skratch Bastid — Hip-Hop Turntablist & Producer

Skratch Bastid, born Paul Murphy in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a Canadian DJ, turntablist and record producer who established himself early in his career as one of the country's leading scratch specialists. Early coverage from HipHopCanada, reproduced on Brockway Entertainment's site, profiled him as a rising hip-hop turntablist building a reputation for technical skill and party-rocking sets across Canada. His performances have paired turntablism with production work, including collaborations with acts such as Buck 65, and NOW Magazine covered his shared billing with indie artist Joel Plaskett, highlighting his crossover appeal between hip-hop DJ culture and wider live-music audiences. DJX Show announced Skratch Bastid as a keynote Q&A speaker at its DJ education conference in Atlantic City, describing him as one of the scene's most notable turntablists, scratch champions and party rockers, alongside crediting him with two Juno Award nominations, Canada's top music industry honor, for his studio work. His career reflects a dual identity as both a competitive-scratch DJ and a working party and club DJ, a combination that has sustained his relevance within Canadian hip-hop and turntablist circles for over two decades.
