Shortee
Shortee, born Shannon Burke, is a Los Angeles-based multi-genre DJ and turntablist from the Washington, D.C. area who was recognised as the most successful female turntablist of the late 1990s. Her scratching and mixing style has ranged across hard house, swing, hip-hop and drum'n'bass to dub, giving her sets a genre-crossing versatility within the turntablist scene.
She was a founding member of the Citizenz alongside Faust and T-Rock and also worked with the Space Kadets Collective, recording a limited-edition vinyl EP titled "Fathomless" in 1999 with Faust and Craze. Rolling Stone has counted her among the "fader-flipping elite," a description tied directly to her scratch DJ technique. Beyond performing, Shortee has built a parallel career as a DJ instructor, offering private lessons since 1997 that grew into a broader teaching practice alongside her touring, production and record label work.
Over the past three decades she has toured globally across major festivals, underground nightclubs, red carpet galas and industry showcases, sustaining a career that spans competitive turntablism, touring DJ work, production, teaching and acting.
