Shinichi Osawa
Shinichi Osawa, working under the name Mondo Grosso since forming the group in Kyoto in 1991, built a DJ and production career that TopDeejays.com ranked as Japan's third overall DJ in 2016. He made his first American performance at Electric Daisy Carnival, a milestone he later described as reflecting his DJ sets more directly than his earlier studio albums. After Mondo Grosso disbanded in 1995, Osawa moved toward solo production, releasing the acid jazz and house album Closer in 1997 before signing to Avex Trax in 2007 and issuing the electro house album The One under his own name rather than the Mondo Grosso banner.
He hosts Date Line, a bi-monthly online radio show on block.fm, co-hosted with DJ Masatoshi Uemura, extending his broadcasting presence alongside his club work. His remix catalogue includes reworks of Felix da Housecat's "Radio," Digitalism's "Pogo" and multiple Ayumi Hamasaki singles, while his collaboration with Australian artist RHYME as RHYME SO produced "Fashion Blogger" in 2020. Mondo Grosso's 2017 single "Labyrinth," featuring actress Hikari Mitsushima, surpassed 37 million YouTube views.
Osawa also formed Ravex with fellow Avex artists Tomoyuki Tanaka and Taku Takahashi to mark the label's twentieth anniversary, and later opened a vegan café in Shibuya with RHYME.
