About Secret Cinema
Secret Cinema is the techno project of Jeroen Verheij, a Rotterdam-born Dutch producer and DJ who began his career under the alias Meng Syndicate nearly three decades ago and is best known for the 1994 track Timeless Altitude. For roughly the first fifteen years of the project, Verheij performed exclusively live, playing only his own material using electronic hardware rather than DJing sets of other artists' tracks.
It was only after founding his own label, Gem Records, in 2009 that he began performing conventional DJ sets, searching out obscure and unplayed talent to feature alongside his own productions. Under the alias Grooveyard he also produced the hits Mary Go Wild in 1996 and Let the Music Be Your Guide in 2000, and he has frequently collaborated with fellow Dutch DJ Michel de Hey.
Verheij is recognized as a key figure in the Dutch techno scene with an international reputation built over more than 25 years, spanning both his rave-era productions and his more recent work as a Gem Records label boss and DJ. His dual identity as both a live performer and, later, a turntable-based DJ reflects a career that has continuously adapted across changing eras of Dutch dance music.
