Sasha Carassi

Sasha Carassi is an Italian techno DJ from Naples who began playing house music at age 15 and has spent decades moving between breakbeat, techno and indie dance sounds behind the decks. He cut his early sets at Dinamik Area, described as one of the most important clubs in his region, before spending nearly ten years immersed in techno and later returning to the eclectic, breakbeat-influenced style of his teenage sets.

Carassi hosts the Phobiq Podcast, a recurring broadcast that has run past its 50th installment and been aired live on Digitally Imported, and he has performed live sets recorded at venues such as Flex Club in Vienna. His track “Over My Ocean” is cited as an early example of the indie dance influence he says he had already been channeling two decades before the genre had a name, while a release on Drumcode helped introduce his sound to an international techno audience.

He produces and remixes for labels including Diynamic, Drumcode, Bedrock, Renaissance and Knee Deep In Sound, and he founded the label Phobiq to support his own podcast series and releases. His latest record, “Ametista,” was made during lockdown and released on Upperground on 27 January, continuing a catalog built on shifting between breakbeat roots, techno and, more recently, an indie dance revival within his DJ sets.
