Sasha

Alexander Paul Coe, known as Sasha, is a Welsh DJ born in Bangor whose journey into electronic music began at Manchester's Haçienda in 1988. He learned mixing from Jon DaSilva and developed a signature sound at Shelley's Laserdrome in Stoke-on-Trent, combining acid house, Italian piano house and emotional a cappellas. That early impact earned him a Mixmag cover story under the headline SASHA MANIA – THE FIRST DJ PINUP?

He joined the Renaissance DJ rotation in the early 1990s and began his long-running partnership with John Digweed in 1993. Together they co-compiled Renaissance: The Mix Collection in 1994 and Northern Exposure in 1996, then held a residency at New York's Twilo from 1997 until 2001. Sasha has moved through acid house, house, progressive house, trance, breaks and ambient breakbeat, consistently resisting a narrow genre label.

His sound evolved from the epic house of the 1990s toward deeper house, electro-house and ambient-breakbeat influences in the following decade. His early releases included Together through Pete Tong's FFRR, and he also recorded for Deconstruction. Sasha's long career rests on an ability to reshape wide-ranging dance music into extended, emotionally paced club sets.
