Roni Size

Roni Size, born Ryan Owen Granville Williams, is a Bristol DJ and producer who rose to prominence in 1997 as founder and frontman of Roni Size & Reprazent, whose debut album New Forms won the Mercury Music Prize that year. Drum and Bass UK credits him with co-founding Full Cycle Records, a label central to Bristol's drum and bass scene, alongside collaborators who helped define the city's sound throughout the 1990s.

His Wikipedia entry lists him as an English DJ and record producer whose career bridged club DJ sets with live band performances under the Reprazent name, a hybrid format that expanded drum and bass beyond its typical club-only presentation. Raised in the St Andrews suburb near Bristol as the son of Jamaican immigrants, his path into music combined DJ residencies with studio work that eventually reached mainstream award recognition.

The Mercury Prize win brought drum and bass unusual visibility within the UK's broader music industry, and Size's subsequent releases continued to circulate through both DJ sets and Reprazent's live shows. His decades-long standing in Bristol's dance music history rests on this combination of DJ practice, label ownership, and genre-defining production work from the 1990s onward.
