Reid Speed

Reid Speed, born Amy Margolis in New York City, began spinning records in 1996 and moved into full-time DJing after coming up through the city's underground drum and bass scene at the label and record shop Breakbeat Science. She held residencies with the promotions crews Stuck on Earth, Direct Drive and Camouflage, bookings that established her within the American drum and bass and bass-music circuit.

Her DJ mixes have received airplay on BBC Radio 1, including recognition on Annie Nightingale's Best Mix of 2008, as well as spins on Los Angeles station Power 106, Sirius satellite radio and Groove Radio. Speed released the mix compilations Resonance in 2001 and Life After Dark in 2003, projects that showcased the multi-genre, genre-mashing mixing style she became known for across dubstep, drum and bass, trap and electro house.

She founded the labels Play Me Records and Play Me Too Records, platforms she has used to release music tied directly to her DJ sets and to support other artists in the bass-music space. Grayarea's profile of Speed describes her as a dancefloor destroyer with over a decade of recognition for her skillful, genre-spanning mixing, reflecting a DJ career built on New York's underground bass-music foundations.
