Red Axes

Red Axes, the Tel Aviv duo of Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi, have built a run of DJ sets and club productions that blend house, techno, disco and post-punk influences. Formed in 2010 after the pair's earlier post-punk band Red Cotton dissolved, they built their reputation through underground parties they organised themselves in Tel Aviv before extending their reach through releases on Hivern Discs, Correspondant, Crosstown Rebels and Permanent Vacation. Their DJ sets, including a compiled mix for XLR8R's podcast series, favour wonky techno and punk-inflected house alongside unreleased material, a format they have carried across club dates internationally.

A stint in Amsterdam early in their career immersed them in house, techno and disco, sounds they folded into the goth-tinged dance productions that followed. Their 2020 self-titled debut album, released on the San Francisco label Dark Entries, expanded on the moody, EBM-adjacent sound established across earlier EPs for Phantasy Sound. Tracks such as Bela Lugosi's Dead and Shabak Shalom have become recurring selections in their live sets and DJ mixes.

Despite disruptions to touring following the October 2023 attack on the Nova festival near Tel Aviv, an event that struck close to their own scene, they have continued performing and contributed to a benefit compilation for survivors.
