Recondite
Recondite, the German artist born Lorenz Brunner in Lower Bavaria, is a techno producer, DJ, label owner and sound artist who first appeared in Bavarian DJ booths around 2008 with a low-speed, introspective techno sound distinct from the prevailing club styles of the time. After moving to Berlin around 2009 to 2010, Brunner's work caught the attention of producer Scuba, leading to two remixes released on Scuba's label Hotflush, including his track Caldera in 2014.
His debut full-length, On Acid, was released by Los Angeles label Acid Test in 2012, blending acid house and ambient techno, followed by Hinterland in 2013 on Ghostly International, an album shaped by his impressions of Rottal-Inn, the rural Bavarian district where he grew up. He founded his own label, Plangent Records, through which he released the album The Dystopian Episodes in 2023 and continued to issue his own melancholic, cinematic strand of techno, including the 2018 album Daemmerlicht and 2020's Dwell.
His discography also includes 2022's Taum, a fusion of minimal techno and trap textures, and a 2023 collaboration with Italian producer Monophase, Elevate, released on Afterlife. Recondite continues to perform as a DJ while running Plangent Records from Berlin.
