Porter Robinson — Electro House & Future Bass DJPorter Robinson
Porter Weston Robinson is an American DJ raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, who began teaching himself electronic music at 12. His early track Say My Name gained attention through Beatport, and at 18 he signed a one-EP deal with Skrillex's OWSLA. The 2011 Spitfire EP drew enough demand on release to crash Beatport's servers. Robinson's DJ profile has moved through electro house, dubstep, future bass, glitch hop and later synth-pop and indie-pop territory.
He described an early detailed electronic style as complextro, combining classically inspired melodies with intricate fills. His Worlds Live tour put that approach on the stages of Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and Coachella in 2014. After taking a break in 2015 because of depression, he launched the Virtual Self alias in 2017, incorporating trance and happy-hardcore influences; Ghost Voices brought a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. Virtual Self's debut live performance was in Brooklyn, followed by appearances at Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival and Bonnaroo.
Beyond touring, Robinson founded and curates Second Sky Music Festival, launched in Oakland in 2019 after an initial Multiverse title. His DJ work is characterised by reinvention, moving between electronic subgenres while building distinct live frameworks around each project.
