Plastik Funk

Plastik Funk, the Düsseldorf-formed duo of Rafael Ximenez-Carrillo and Mikio Gruschinske, started out DJing hip-hop in high school before switching to house after hearing Frankie Knuckles and David Morales, then became resident DJs at two Düsseldorf nightclubs. Formed in 2002, the pair toured Germany and beyond following their 2003 debut EP “Do It Right,” and went on to tour worldwide after the success of their track “Who,” which was played at the Winter Music Conference in Miami and drew acclaim from Avicii. Their cover of C+C Music Factory's “Everybody Dance Now” became their first charting hit in Germany, while a reworked version, “Dr.

Who!” featuring Sneakbo, peaked at number 21 on the UK Singles Chart in 2014. The duo have released through Spinnin' Records and Revealed Recordings, been commissioned to mix compilation albums including German Ministry of Sound's “2009 Sessions,” and remixed David Guetta, Robyn, Shaggy, and Deadmau5. Later collaborations included “Raveille” with Timmy Trumpet and “Dare Me” with Nervo.

Since 2018, Ximenez-Carrillo has continued touring under the Plastik Funk name after Gruschinske stepped back due to a back injury.
