Pendulum
Pendulum is an Australian-formed drum and bass act led by Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, whose stage show blends live-band instrumentation with heavy DJ-driven set design built for festival main stages. Beyond album tours, the pair have carried the Pendulum sound into club and rave environments through Knife Party, their side project devoted to DJ sets and electro house productions that toured globally on the strength of the duo's studio reputation.
Pendulum's own marathon sets, including a headline appearance alongside Knife Party at Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2016 that brought out Deadmau5 and Tom Morello, showed the crossover between their band identity and DJ booth presence. Their catalogue of remixes, including reworkings of their own material by Knife Party, has circulated widely on YouTube and SoundCloud, keeping their tracks in rotation among drum and bass selectors long after their initial album cycles.
The group emerged from Perth before relocating to the UK, where their sound tightened around breakbeat, rock-inflected riffs and dancefloor-focused low end that suited both live performance and DJ programming. Their influence on drum and bass crowds persists through continued play of tracks like Propane Nightmares and Blood Sugar at festivals and in mix sets by other DJs across the genre.
