Orbital — Electronica DJ & Live Act

Orbital, the British electronic act of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll, built its reputation primarily through live performances but has a documented history of DJ sets stretching back to the group's earliest years. Recordings collected as the Orbital Live Classic Electronica DJ-Sets compilation cover thirteen sets between 1991 and 1999, including dates at PowerHaus in London, Sound City in Bristol and Leeds, and Tribal Gathering, showing DJ sets as part of Orbital's touring practice alongside their better-known live shows. Phil Hartnoll has also performed standalone DJ sets outside the Orbital live format, including a 2014 DJ set at Living Room in Lugano billed explicitly as a DJ performance rather than a live show. Orbital's Boiler Room recording in 2012, shared alongside PiL in a small east London venue, captured a live set witnessed by only around thirty-five invited guests, an intimate counterpoint to their arena and festival stages at venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Sonar Festival in Barcelona. The duo's catalogue traces back to their 1994 signing with Internal Records, the same label home to The Advent, and their touring career has continued for over three decades with a recent vinyl boxset release, 30 Something, marking their long-running discography.
