Opolopo
Opolopo is a Hungarian-born, Swedish-raised DJ and producer whose name, taken from the Yoruba word for “plenty,” reflects a sound that spans house, boogie, broken beat, funk, and soul. Raised alongside a touring keyboardist father, he absorbed fusion and electronic influences from Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lorber, and Kraftwerk, alongside a lifelong pull toward funk from George Clinton and Bootsy Collins that carried into both his productions and his DJ sets.
Opolopo has played club dates from London to Tokyo, moving between stripped-down, sweaty grooves and lush, uplifting house depending on the room, all unified by what Traxsource describes as his devotion to the groove. His catalog spans more than two decades across labels including Local Talk, Toolroom, Tru Thoughts, Defected, and Especial Records, with collaborations and remixes involving Gregory Porter, Omar, Lisa Stansfield, and Roland Clark.
He spent eight months as the first-ever resident DJ and music director at a Four Seasons hotel in Dubai before returning to Stockholm to resume touring and studio work. Traxsource ranked him fourth on its list of Top 100 Soulful House Artists in 2015 and again in 2021, alongside a fifth-place finish on its Soul/Funk/Disco list in 2019, reflecting sustained recognition within soulful house circles.
