Opiuo
Opiuo is the stage name of Oscar Davey-Wraight, a producer and DJ who grew up around festival sound systems in New Zealand before relocating to Australia and building a career in what he has called funkadelic bass music, a hip-hop-influenced style also touching breaks, drum and bass, trance and house. He made his US debut at Cervantes in Denver in 2010, a performance that opened the door to a growing American festival following, including a headline set at Suwannee Hulaween at Spirit of Suwannee Music Park. In the mid-2010s he formed the OPIUO Band, moving toward fully live performances alongside friends rather than conventional DJ sets, and he later expanded that live format further by performing with the 20-person Syzygy Orchestra at his first headline show at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre, later released as a live album. That evolution from club-style DJ sets toward full-band arrangements has become a signature of his career, with Opiuo continuing to tour behind new material and describing himself as still finishing new productions and an EP as his live show keeps expanding in scale.
