Olivier J. L. Heldens, known as Oliver Heldens, is a Dutch DJ from Rotterdam credited with pioneering future house. His music crosses big room, electro house, deep house and tech house, while his HI-LO alias is used for techno.
Heldens signed with Spinnin' Records in 2013 and broke through when Tiësto signed Gecko (Overdrive) to Musical Freedom; the track later reached number one in the United Kingdom. As a DJ, he has hosted stages at Tomorrowland, Mysteryland, SW4 and Electric Forest, and he is also associated with major sets at Tomorrowland and Creamfields. His programming has long moved between deeper house selections and higher-impact festival material, reflecting the breadth of the genres connected to his name. In 2014 he launched Heldeep Mixtape on SoundCloud and appeared on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix that December.
He founded Heldeep Records in 2015, later renamed HILOMATIK, and began a monthly BBC Radio 1 residency on 22 January 2016. DJ Mag placed him 34th as a new entry in 2014, and he rose to seventh in 2019. With parallel identities for future house and techno plus a long-running mix and label platform, Heldens has developed a DJ profile that comfortably connects radio, festival stages and underground-minded club sounds.
