Nick Rotteveel, known as Nicky Romero, is a Dutch DJ from Amerongen in Utrecht Province. He broke through with My Friend in 2010, then reached a wider audience through Toulouse in 2012 and I Could Be the One with Avicii in 2013, which became both artists' first UK chart-topper. His DJ sets are centred on progressive house and the big-room edge associated with Toulouse, while the label he founded also spans house and electro house. Romero's live career has included a joint Ibiza residency with David Guetta in summer 2012 and a 2013 residency at The Light in Las Vegas.
He has appeared at Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas and Puerto Rico, Sensation White, Tomorrowland and TomorrowWorld. At TomorrowWorld in 2013, he gave an early interactive performance using Google Glass. In 2015, he scaled back touring because of anxiety. Protocol Recordings, founded in Amsterdam in May 2012, and the weekly Protocol Radio, launched in 2013, are the key platforms around his DJ identity.
Romero received DJ Mag's Highest New Entry recognition in 2012. The combination of festival performances, Las Vegas and Ibiza residencies, and his Protocol outlets has kept his work closely linked to the international progressive-house circuit.
