Mr C
Mr C, born Richard West, has DJed since late 1987 after MCing London clubs from age 16 and recording an early deep house track with Eddie Richards under the name Myster-E. He was the resident DJ at the early acid house RIP nights at Clink Street and went on to hold residencies including Flavour and Subterrain at The End, the London nightclub he co-founded with Layo Paskin in December 1995 and ran until its 2009 closure. Since 2002 he has run Superfreq as both a worldwide club night and record label, extending to the Super Disco Freq residency in Los Angeles from 2010. His DJ mix releases include Fantazia DJ Collection 3, Psycotrance vol 1, X-Mix 6 and Superfreq Express, spanning house, tech house and dub-inflected sounds across his catalogue. Mr C also fronted The Shamen during their most commercially successful period, delivering the UK number-one Ebeneezer Goode, and he has released productions on Get Physical Music, Poker Flat and his own Plink Plonk Records and End Recordings imprints, work that continues to inform his ongoing club residencies and DJ sets.
