Mija
Mija is the DJ alias of Amber Giles, a Phoenix-born, Los Angeles-based selector who moved from booking parties to headlining them over more than a decade in dance music. Giles started DJing full time in Phoenix in 2012 at age 19, cutting her teeth on weddings, hotel gigs and downtown parties before her reputation as a promoter, having booked Skrillex before his mainstream breakout, fed directly into her own rise behind the decks. Billboard included her among its 15 Female DJs You Need to Know Now in October 2015, and on Skrillex's encouragement she relocated to downtown Los Angeles that same year to focus on production and touring. Mija has resisted genre labels, moving from rave-oriented sounds toward disco house and later hardgroove and techno, a shift reflected in her sets and in her work as part of the French house and nu-disco duo Deux Yeux alongside Eric Daily. She has released music through Skrillex's OWSLA and Fool's Gold while remaining largely unsigned as a solo artist, and her DJ sets continue to reflect an eclectic, self-directed approach that has kept her touring internationally since her Los Angeles breakthrough.
