Maya Jane Coles
Maya Jane Coles is a London-born DJ and producer working across deep house and tech house, alongside her darker, bass-driven Nocturnal Sunshine alias. She began producing as a teenager using Cubase and released her earliest records on Dogmatik Records in 2008 and 2009 before gaining wider attention in 2010 with an EP on Franck Roger's Real Tone Records; her track What They Say became one of the most playlisted tracks among Resident Advisor-tracked DJs that year. DJ Mag named her one of 2010's best newcomers, and in 2011 BBC Radio 1 invited her to record an Essential Mix, which was nominated for Essential Mix of the Year.
She was voted Best Newcomer 2011 at the Ibiza DJ Awards and placed ninth in Resident Advisor's annual DJ poll that year. In 2012 she won DJ Mag's Producer of the Year and Mixmag's Best Breakthrough DJ, along with a Beatport Staff Pick Artist of the Year award. Earlier in her career she was part of the electronic dub duo She Is Danger with Lena Cullen, remixing acts including Massive Attack and Gorillaz.
Coles has released on labels including 1trax, Hypercolour, Mobilee and her own I/Am/Me, building a catalogue that spans house, techno and dubstep-adjacent production alongside her DJ touring.
