Max Cooper
Max Cooper is a British electronic musician and former computational biology researcher who built his early DJ career through a ten-year residency at the Midlands techno event Firefly, a relationship that also connected him with the Architecture Social Club, with whom he still collaborates on immersive installations. Cooper continues to play DJ sets alongside his better-known live audiovisual performances, with recent tour listings showing dedicated DJ dates at venues including Rex Club in Paris, Zenner in Berlin, Village Underground in London and Hope Works in Sheffield, distinct from his 3D/AV live shows. He has described his live performance system as functioning like a DJ and VJ tool, built around Ableton Live and Resolume, and keeps CDJs on hand as backup, noting that because he used to DJ before developing his AV shows, he wants the same freedom to react to a crowd rather than follow a fixed setlist. His live/DJ hybrid sets have appeared at festivals including Sonar in Barcelona, Soenda in Utrecht and Reworks in Thessaloniki, and in 2025 he brought a 3D/AV show to the Philharmonie in Luxembourg. Cooper holds a PhD in computational biology and was among the first electronic musicians to perform at the Acropolis theatre in Athens, a career highlight that sits alongside his ongoing DJ bookings.
