Matthew Dear

Matthew Dear is an American DJ and electronic producer from Kingsville, Texas, who founded Ghostly International and its dancefloor-focused offshoot Spectral Sound after meeting Sam Valenti IV at a University of Michigan house party. Working under his own name and the alias Audion, Dear has recorded two BBC Essential Mixes, one in 2008 as Matthew Dear and another in 2016 as Audion, and in early 2017 he contributed an entry to the DJ-Kicks series on !K7.

His Audion track "Mouth to Mouth" became a favorite among international DJs including Richie Hawtin, and in 2013 he revived the Audion alias with new singles and DJ performances ahead of the 2016 album Alpha. Dear has also released the DJ mixes Body Language Vol.

7 for Get Physical in 2008 and RA.306 for Resident Advisor in 2012, alongside the Audion compilations Fabric 27 and Audion X. Beyond DJing, he has toured with a live band supporting Interpol, Hot Chip and Depeche Mode, and performed at Denmark's Roskilde Festival in 2011, maintaining parallel identities as club DJ, dance producer and live performer across releases on Ghostly International, Spectral Sound, Minus and Perlon.
