Markus Schulz is a German-born DJ based in Miami, Florida, whose international career developed from a seven-year residency at The Works in Scottsdale, Arizona. That formative club experience preceded an approach to trance and dance music known for sharper square waves and pitch bends rather than what he calls typical unicorn melody EDM; it earned him the nickname the Unicorn Slayer. Schulz has played a long list of clubs including Stereo, Avalon, Club Space, Green Valley, Ministry of Sound, Ruby Skye and Zouk.
His festival appearances include Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Zoo, Ultra Music Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event, Creamfields, Global Gathering and Nature One. He has also appeared through New World Punx, his duo with Ferry Corsten, at A State of Trance milestone episodes from 250 through 650, with the project making its debut arena performance at Madison Square Garden. Global DJ Broadcast is his weekly radio outlet on Digitally Imported and ah.fm, while Coldharbour Recordings and Schulz Music Group give him a label and business base.
Schulz was named America's number-one DJ by DJ Times in September 2012. His work under the Dakota alias adds another strand to a career that connects a long club residency, a global radio platform and extensive festival touring.
