About Maceo Plex
Maceo Plex is the name used by Eric Estornel, an American DJ and electronic artist born in Flower Mound, Texas, raised in Dallas and Miami, and resident in Barcelona. Active since 1993, he has worked across deep house, tech house, house, techno and progressive house. His catalogue also includes the aliases Maetrik and Mariel Ito: under Maetrik he began releasing in 2001 with “Connect” on Treibstoff and issued the albums Quality Exertion and Casi Profundo, while as Mariel Ito he released “My Cyborg Depths” in 2005 on SCSI-AV.
Estornel has placed music across labels including Treibstoff, Chalant Music, Immigrant, Iron Box, Intrinsic Design, Big Chief, Tic Tac Toe, Affected Music, Stil Vor Talent, Mothership, Dumb-Unit, Audiomatique, Cocoon and SCSI-AV. His style is predominantly informed by house and techno, while retaining elements of electro and tech house. The 2017 Solar project broadened that language through ambient electronica, breakbeats, dub and techno flourishes with guest vocalists.
He also curated fabric98, a big-room, Ibiza-friendly mix that combined work from the Maetrik and Mariel Ito catalogues. Maceo Plex's DJ identity is marked by that ability to move between aliases, formats and shades of electronic music while maintaining a long-term club focus.
