Lazy Rich is Richard Billis, a UK-born DJ and producer who relocated to Vancouver, Canada, in 2004 and became known as one of the pioneers of the complextro sound that spread through electro house clubs in the early 2010s. He founded the label Big Fish Recordings as an outlet for his own tracks and those of like-minded producers, using it as a direct extension of the sets he played on the North American club and festival circuit.
Billis went on to establish Label Engine, a label-management and distribution platform, reflecting a shift in his career from touring DJ toward the business side of dance music. He announced his retirement from DJing at the end of 2017, stepping away from regular club and festival bookings to focus on Label Engine, where he serves as chief technology officer, and later on Create Music Group.
During his active touring years, Lazy Rich built a following through club dates across Canada and the United States, with his complextro-leaning productions forming the backbone of his sets before he stepped away from performing. His transition from DJ booth to label infrastructure marked a relatively early and clean exit from the touring circuit compared with peers from the same electro house era, though his catalogue remains associated with that early-2010s complextro sound.
