About Laurent Garnier

Laurent Garnier, born 1 February 1966 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, started his DJ career in 1984 while working as a waiter at the French Embassy in London, where he began playing alongside DJ Nelson, also known as DJ Stan, at a French club. Garnier moved to Manchester in 1986, discovered the city's house scene, and in 1987 began mixing at The Haçienda under the alias DJ Pedro after meeting resident DJ Mike Pickering.

He returned to France in 1988 for military service, spending time in New York, where he met Frankie Knuckles, before shifting his focus back to France and gradually moving into production in the early 1990s. Garnier ran the Wake Up parties at Rex Club in Paris for three years and organized events in Dijon from 1990 to 1994 at L'An-Fer, alongside international dates including a three-night Weekender set at Sir Henry's in Cork in 1992 and an Ibiza Foam Party at The Red Box in Dublin the same year.

He also mixed at Le Palace and Le Boy in Paris and played numerous rave parties across France and the UK. Also known by the aliases Choice and DJ Pedro, Garnier has remained active since 1987, building a career that bridges the UK house scene of the late 1980s with the French electronic scene he helped establish through his residencies and productions.
