KSHMR — Electro House & Progressive DJKSHMR
Niles Hollowell-Dhar, known as KSHMR, is an American DJ from Berkeley, California, of Kashmiri-Indian descent through his father. Previously Cyrano in the duo The Cataracs, he launched the KSHMR persona as a tribute to his father's Kashmiri heritage. His first live performance under the name was at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles on 19 September 2015, and he then progressed to mainstages around the world.
KSHMR works across electro house, progressive house, future house, future bounce, big room house and psytrance, with sets and songs that blend electronic dance music with Indian musical elements, Bollywood influences and Desi hip-hop. Tiësto introduced him at Ultra Music Festival in 2015, and he later played Tomorrowland's mainstage in 2016 and 2017 as well as Ultra Miami's mainstage in 2018. At Ultra in 2017, he and Timmy Trumpet used live musicians for the first time in his career.
He founded Dharma Worldwide, a Spinnin' Records sublabel, in July 2017. DJ Mag made him the highest new entry of 2015 at 23rd, and he later reached 11th in 2021. KSHMR's DJ identity pairs a large-room electronic framework with carefully foregrounded South Asian cultural references.
